Current Programs Experience: 

We have following programs experience shortly review of organization profile. 

The Sujog Foundation (SF) is committed to improve the lives of the poor households. It has may be successfully completed some development project with the help of some individual donor, national organization and the Government funding. The management and the field team have exposure to work with the poor community. Beyond the funding support it has developed its working relationship with various national and international agencies. Being committed to environment friendly development to facilitate socio-economic empowerment of the poor, the organization grew as a small local organization over the years with its participatory approach and bottom up development initiatives. The organization brings the economically and socially disadvantage families into groups for social and economic development.

One of the objectives of the organization is to develop the people’s institutions. Institution building is aimed at building an institution at the local level to be managed by the disadvantaged and poor man/women. Education and training has been intended to develop skilled resources so that they can work on their own for the self-development. The work experience of the organization with its short development journey can be highlighted below.

** Group Formation process:
It believes that grass root level community organization can be appropriate platform to sensitize the mass community. It gives emphasis on the poor members for selecting and enrolment in the group. The members of the group are enrolled after the socio-economic baseline survey. Weekly development session in the group held regularly at the village level location to discuss the different developmental issue. Group formed to date is 35 and active members up to current period are 350.

** Income Generation:
Unemployment in the area is one of the major and acute problems for the rural poor. To assist the group members for the income generation activities SF has started soon the savings credit program for the active members of the group. The aim if the income generation program is to help create a financial base for the group members through savings mobilization and credit so that they can carry out different income generation program. Group members deposit Tk.10 to 100(up to various group) per person per week or half month. This is a compulsory and mandatory savings for all the group members. It is distributing credit fund to its members upon fulfilling the credit eligibility criteria. The borrowers are doing repayment through 50 equal weekly installments. Prior to the disbursement of credit it has emphasized on the capacity building of the rural/Urban poor who are an essential along side the credit to run the business satisfactorily of organizational earn creative activities.

** Human Resource Development:
To aware the various target person on the socio-economic aspects training is an integral component. SF with its trained staff members organizes training on leadership and group management, grass root planning and on gender development etc. Training organized both for staff as well as the group members and leaders. The Training organized as per the module and project needs. The participatory approach followed to organize the training at the group level. Training on income generation program organized as per the actual need of the income generation project. For the effective impact of training the follow up and monitoring is focused at the respective field. For the technical training Government resources are availed as and when necessary. One separate training wing headed by one senior by one senior trainer is assigned to conduct the training.

** Water & Sanitation:
Water and sanitation is now the crucial issue in the rural areas of Bangladesh. Lack of pure and potable drinking water and safe sanitation was identified and determined as one of the core problem of the project area for the people living in above- mentioned areas. Lack of awareness and hygiene practices are also causes, which hamper the health improvement problem identified through the base line assessment. The key principle is to respond to demand for water and safe sanitation indicated by community’s willingness to share the price of the installation cost of the services. Under the gives circumstances the organization has taken appropriate initiative to aware the community to improve their health and hygiene behavior.

** Arsenic Mitigation:
In recent years, widespread presence of arsenic above the permissible rate in ground water has added a new dimension in the planning for drinking water supply. Recent estimates of the percentage of the population exposed to arsenic from drinking water in excess of the Bangladesh standard of 50ppb is 29 million  and is excess of the WHO guideline value of 10 ppb is 49 million. Most of the tube wells have been found affected by the arsenic, having arsenic greater than 50ppb. However there are some concerns regarding health impacts for the arsenic contamination of the tube wells. The SF has been prioritized the issue and undertaken the testing and mitigation of the problems in order to address the rural communities.

** Gender Development:
Regular motivation/awareness raising discussion are held among the beneficiaries in weekly group meeting. Special seminar workshops on legal aid are being organized with the Government officials, public representatives and by the participation of men/women. Rallies, workshop and day observance was done on yearly basis. Through the program respective rights of both the male as well as female are stressed to communicate. People are empowered on the gender and women’s rights issue. Child marriage and women oppression is decreasing due to awareness and consciousness.

** Health, Nutrition & Family Planning:
Government health services at the rural situation are out of reach to the poor households. To aware the group people on the primary health issue different types of interventions are implemented under this head. The activities are training to pregnant mother, nutritional awareness and Family planning. Awareness buildup about common diseases, Immunization, Anti-natal, a post-natal care is done.

** Environmental Development Program:
 During the recent years, people have become more and more concerned with the environmental issues. For the sound environmental condition, sufficient forest resource is important to keep the balance of nature. To protect the environment tree resources are most useful to us. Considering the fact it has been working to give proper attention on the a forestation program within its geographic zones. The actives are production and distribution of saplings by the village level nurseries holders. Plantation at the homestead sites as well as roadside areas are emphasized.

** Fisheries Activities:
To create the employment of the rural women various type of activates are implemented under this program. Major activities are cages aquaculture & Training on the pond fisheries. The major households of the coastal areas are associated with the fish cultivation related job. The enrolled members are brought under the program to provide necessary support and assistance.

** Relief and Rehabilitation:
The organization is working to response the disaster situation. The major activities are emergency relief, medicines supply, seed distribution, cash relief and rehabilitation program like distribution of loan without interest. The program has been running with the help of local individuals and other department. The program is being undertaken for the people affected by the river erosion.

** Children Education Program:
In the project location most of the children belonging to poor households cannot go to school, as they have to support the family income. These type of children have been brought under the coverage of education program. The basic characteristics of the school are ensured girl’s participation, utilizing idea time, involving parents and the community, one room class house and one female teacher, reasonable class size, life related curriculum, extra curricular activities, and learning at the classroom only.

** Skill based Training:
The main purpose of the program is to train up the men/women in the handicrafts program for the income generating of the group members. SF is helping their organized group members in acquiring new skills in the embroidery, sewing and other garments works. Now the rural Men/ Women can earn by this activity. This program activates the members in extra earning beyond their normal job.

** Home Gardening:
Agricultural program is one of the important areas for the development of the development of the poor households. The major components are the Training on vegetable cultivation. Saplings production, Vegetables seeds distributaries, Food processing, and demonstration plot. This has encouraged using the follow land of the target households for the purpose of income and nutrition.

** Disability Development:
In the rural areas, there is no scope of serving the disabled persons. Our area lacks the support for the disabled population, their education and rehabilitation. Considering the felt needs of the area we have selected the members of the disabled persons and started interventions to assist them so that they can participate in the regular development activities of the country.

** Poultry and livestock:
The program has been running with the own resource of SF. The main activities are to organize training for the group members on cattle fattening and the poultry rearing. Credit supports are provided to the members to establish the poultry farming activities. On the other hand members received loan money for the cattle- fattening purpose.
